2024 NORTHERN YOUTH LEADERSHIP (NYL) SUMMER CAMP

Northern Youth Leadership (NYL) is running three leadership camps in summer 2024:

1. Gana River Leadership Camp: June 24 – July 3, 2024 for youth aged 11-17 from across the NT | Poster

2. Nahanni River Rafting Adventure: July 6 – 21, 2024 for youth aged 16-18 from across the NT | Poster

3. Hidden Lake Leadership Canoe Trip: August 12-18, 2024 for youth aged 14-18 from across the NT

Gana River Leadership Camp is a lodge based camp in the Mackenzie Mountains where we will be going on hiking excursions during the day with one special overnight hike. The hikes start small and we build up to summiting a nearby mountain. At the lodge youth will participate in leadership programming, learning survival and traditional skills along with some other fun activities! The Lodge is located on a lake and youth will have access to swimming, fishing and canoeing.

NORTH ARM ADVANCED LEADERSHIP CANOE TRIP

Outdoor adventure camp for teenagers aged 14 – 16 from across the NWT
June 28 – July 9, 2021

Youth from every community in the NWT will canoe from Yellowknife to Behchokǫ̀ along the North Arm of Great Slave Lake and learn about what goes into leading a canoe trip. With the support of NYL instructors, the youth will take responsibility for themselves and their peers as they work on navigation, paddling and group management. Youth will also get to fish, swim, and learn survival and traditional skills!

LEADERSHIP CANOE TRIP

Outdoor adventure camp for youth aged 12 – 14 from across the NWT
August 11 – 18, 2021

Youth will spend a week in the Ingraham Trail area just outside Yellowknife learning paddling and survival skills. Without the pressure of having to reach a destination, youth will be able to focus on skill development and will spend equal time on paddling and survival skills They will learn about leading a canoe trip, navigation, and shelter building. In addition, there will be swimming, fishing, and hiking.

CONNECTING NORTHERN YOUTH TO COMMUNITY, CULTURE, AND THE LAND FORUM

On the Land Youth Forum for NWT youth aged 14 – 17
March 12 – 17, 2022

Youth will spend a week living and learning on the land taking part in a cultural exchange, discussing shared challenges and topics like climate change and environmental stewardship, and participating in hands-on workshops to build skills to respond to the challenges they face.
